  • Shielding

    Stable barrier for electromagnetic radiation
Absorber chambers are shielded according to the principle of a Faraday cage. A completely closed frame of metal ensures that electromagnetic radiation cannot penetrate or escape. This makes certain that external influences do not interfere with the measurements.

    Bolted shielding
Our shielding made of bolted metal modules convinces with its reliable long-term performance and short installation time.

    Welded shielding
We recommend welded shielding to accommodate strong condensation or for environments in which aggressive chemicals are used.

  • Absorbers

Absorbers by Emerson & Cuming Anechoic Chambers (E&C)
We exclusively use absorbers by our subsidiary Emerson E&C Anechoic Chambers. They deliver outstanding, broadband absorption performance and reliable quality.

    Hybrid absorbers
Hybrid absorbers are the most frequently used variants in EMC chambers. They are a combination of ferrite absorbers and pyramid absorbers. While the ceramic ferrite tiles are good for a frequency range up to one gigahertz, the pyramid-shaped foam absorbers are ideal for the higher range of 1–40 gigahertz and above.

    Ferrite absorbers
We use quadratic nickel-zinc ferrite with a side length of ten centimetres. Their absorption principle is based on electromagnetic interaction with the HF radiation. We bolt together and install the precisely ground ferrite tiles individually in order to cover large surfaces completely and without any gaps. This ensures an ideal magnetic flow and hence optimised absorption. The bolt connections sustainably prevent the tiles from dislodging.

To ensure absorption, it is necessary to fit a reflective metal layer behind the ferrite. The distance from this layer influences the frequency-dependent absorption behaviour. We place the metal layer between the tiles and the fibreboard panels. By doing so, we achieve maximum performance at 30 megahertz and an improved alignment between the foam absorbers in the gigahertz range. It also ensures lasting protection against detachment of the metal layer.

    Frustum-shaped polyurethane absorbers
Our frustum-shaped E&C absorbers are made of carbon-impregnated polyurethane foam, the most commonly used absorber material for EMC chambers. Their functions are determined by the absorber's pyramid shape, the porous structure and the absorbent properties of the material. The pyramid shape means that reflected radiation fractions are not mirrored back into the room. The porous structure contributes significantly to the absorption effects of the carbon-impregnated foam.

Frustum-shaped foam absorbers by E&C are available in many sizes and variants to ideally accommodate the individual customer needs.

Fine-tuning the performance of hybrid absorbers (matching-layer technology)
We install layers of polyurethane foam in varying thickness below the pyramid absorbers in order to ensure optimised absorption performance. These matching layers are adjusted individually, depending on the absorption properties of each individual pyramid absorber.

  • Doors and gates

    What counts
A shielded room is only as good as its weakest link. It is therefore essential to pay particular attention to the fitted components. This applies to doors especially, as they are moved every day and are therefore more susceptible to wear.

    Doors are our strength
Doors and gates by Albatross Projects are easy to operate, extremely rugged and guarantee extraordinary sound attenuation, even after many thousand closing cycles. All wear parts are easy to replace.

The shielding effects are directly dependent on the contact pressure across a broad frequency range. Our doors therefore possess extreme torsional stability and a robust structure in order to achieve remarkably high and homogeneous contact pressure at the sealing surfaces. This produces outstanding sound attenuation values from low frequency bands and even to the high microwave range. For instance, we are the only manufacturer that produces double-winged doors with 100 dB shielding up to 40 GHz.

  • Signal lines, power supply, feedthroughs, ventilation

Every connection, precisely where you need it
Every line that is introduced from outside into a shielded room and every opening in the shielding may potentially allow electromagnetic interference to enter the chamber. Albatross Projects makes sure that the power connections, signal lines, feedthroughs and apertures you require can be used without impairing the shield's function. Tailored entirely to suit your needs, we position the connections for short distances.

  • Image, audio, monitoring

    Information and communication technology
Technical communication systems for between the test chamber and the control room facilitate coordination when setting up test cycles. Cameras are used to safely monitor all processes from outside during the emission and immunity tests. Albatross Projects designs all information and communications technology to suit your requirements precisely. The components used do not interfere with the test environment and are immune to powerful electromagnetic fields. Each component is validated according to our strict internal quality control system.

  • Lighting

HF emission-free, bright and energy efficient
The right lighting creates a safe working environment and a bright, pleasant ambience. We select special halogen, fluorescent or LED lamps, depending on the requirements. For emission testing, we use HF emission-free lamps to ensure that the tests are not falsified. We position halogen lamps directly below the ventilation grilles to improve heat removal. Electric winches are available for high ceilings, which are used to lower the lamps to replace the luminaires.
